Spreading out near Lake Ushiku is the 60,000 m2 Peony Garden, which features 10,000
plants and 550 varieties of peonies; 5,000 plants and 215 varieties of Chinese peonies; and
500 plants and 80 varieties of roses. Visitors can see important new varieties, and even rose varieties that have won the Grand Prix at international rose expositions.
Among the featured flowers are peony and ume plum from January to February; peony, Chinese peony, and cherry from April to May; rose and hydrangea, at June, rose and winter peonies from October to November; and colored leaves at December. There are also old rhododendrons, as well as azaleas and camellias. In winter there is a special treat of peonies skillfully cultivated by the park's horticulturists
